The U.S. economy is back on track. As we head into summer, the job market – driven by growing consumer confidence – has been gaining steam. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell himself recently said, “The United States is on track for stronger growth and hiring in the coming months.”

Employers Struggle to Fill Jobs

Even with this positive economic news, employers are hard-pressed to find talent for their open roles. A recent survey found that four in ten American employers are having difficulty finding workers with the right skills for at least some of their vacancies.

This is especially true in the Atlanta area, where e-commerce, manufacturing, and logistics organizations have thrived during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Georgia Department of Labor website listed 98,101 job openings in July of 2020 compared to approximately 220,000 now. “The numbers are still substantially elevated,” said Georgia Commissioner of Labor Mark Butler. “The good news for those still unemployed after a year is there are a record of job listings in many different markets across the entire state.”

In March, a series of Atlanta-area investment firms added new partners, and another investment firm enhanced its leadership team, adding to the area’s burgeoning technology ecosystem and hiring new employees. In April, it was announced that Atlanta data center firm DC Blox raised $187 million as part of a regional expansion.
